Bill Gates surprises London students at Deptford Green

25 January 2012

On the 25th of January 2012, Deptford Green had the honour of hosting a Speakers for Schools talk from Microsoft founder Bill Gates. The pupils were given an insight into the work of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and the major debate surrounding global poverty and disease prevention. In addition to a chance to talk directly to students in South London about issues, Deptford Green’s sister school in Kampala, Uganda also joined via Skype for the event, giving both groups of students a chance to exchange views on the critical issue.

The talk was followed by a broadcast of BBC’s World Have Your Say featuring Bill and the students, in addition to students joining the show from Russia, Paraguay, Uganda and the US.
