Generate London hosts Matthew Ryder QC on 9th May
4 May 2017
In addition to our own events, Speakers for Schools helps sign-post free, inspiring and informative enrichment opportunities for state schools and their students, such as Generate London events.
As a charitable project, Generate London hosts interactive workshops and talks with industry leaders outside of school hours, each session providing a number of free tickets to state school students. These are special after-school workshops where they reserve spaces especially for students from schools within our network.
Generate’s next speaker is Matthew Ryder, a barrister AND one of London’s Deputy Mayors
Matthew became a barrister in 1992, specialising in complex crime, criminal related civil work, media and data law. He’s represented clients in some very high-profile cases, including the families of Stephen Lawrence and Ian Tomlinson.
He has argued cases before the UK Supreme Court, European Court of Human Rights and International Criminal Court. In 2010 he was appointed Queen’s Counsel and he has regularly been named as one of the most influential persons of African-Caribbean heritage in the UK by the annual ‘Powerlist’.
Matthew grew up in London, the son of a Jamaican mother and English father. He attended his local comprehensive before studying law at Cambridge University and Columbia University in New York.
