Sarah Thornton kicks off BAFTA Partnership with Speakers for Schools

Sarah Thornton speaking to students at Haringey Sixth Form CentreMedia students at Haringey Sixth Form Centre had the chance to meet an industry expert, as part of an interactive talk with Sarah Thornton, Vice President of Production and Development – Lifestyle & Entertainment at the Discovery Channel.

As one might expect from a leading TV producer, Sarah’s talk was punctuated with videos showcasing the versatility of her work – from nature documentaries to comedy series. She gave an insight into the challenges and joys of the different roles available in the industry, as well as top tips to those starting out. ​

One girl asked Sarah for advice on how she could become a children’s TV presenter; another asked Sarah about internships in the industry.

Sarah’s visit marks the beginning of an exciting new partnership between Speakers for Schools and BAFTA, as a part of their member’s working with state schools.

Upcoming weeks see a number of high-profile BAFTA members, from producers to video game creators, giving talks through this initiative, to help inspire a new generation of creative minds.
