Students meet Condoleezza Rice during follow-up to Speakers for Schools talk

26 September 2013

Bexley Grammar School had the pleasure of hosting Douglas Flint, Group Chairman of HSBC, for in the 2012/13 academic year. Doug kindly arranged a follow-up session in which a group of girls from the school had the opportunity to visit the HSBC offices in Canary Wharf.

Whilst there, the students received a presentation from the bank’s Chief European Economist and learned from the experiences of other senior women in the business. All of the career advice and insight into the finance sector was incredibly valuable- particularly in context of the girls considering university courses.

However, it was the unexpected chance to meet Condoleezza Rice, former US Secretary of State, that teachers described as ‘the most propitious event of the day’. Condoleezza, visitng HSBC that afternoon, gave a motivational talk and spoke with each girl individually. We’ve heard from teachers since then that she ‘provided the girls with the inspiration and determination to work hard and achieve the success they are capable of’.

Whilst we can’t promise all our schools Condoleezza Rice, we’re delighted that staff and pupils at Bexley had such an amazing experience.

You can read more about the students’ visit on the Bexley Grammar School website.
