In April 2013, Danny Cohen was appointed Director of BBC Television. His remit includes BBC One, BBC2, BBC3 and BBC4, all of BBC Productions, BBC Films and the iplayer. The genres at the BBC that Danny is responsible for include Drama, Comedy, Factual and Entertainment.
Prior to that Danny was appointed Controller, BBC One in October 2011. BBC One remains the most watched channel in the UK. With a strong emphasis on public service content, Danny has commissioned a number of high-impact current affairs programmes including the Panorama Special, Undercover Care: The Abuse Exposed.
Prior to this Danny was Controller of BBC Three where he revamped the channel and grew its share of 16-34 year-olds by 58%, making BBC Three the most watched digital channel by young viewers in the hours it broadcasts.
Under Cohen’s leadership, BBC Three has been named Digital Channel of the Year at the Edinburgh TV Festival in three out of the last four years (2008, 2010, 2011). Danny’s commissions at BBC Three have included Being Human, Blood Sweat And Takeaways, Our War, Russell Howard’s Good News and World’s Strictest Parents. Prior to joining the BBC, Danny was Head of E4 and Head of Channel 4 Factual Entertainment and Documentaries. During his time at Channel 4 his commissions included The Inbetweeners, Supernanny and Skins.
