Karen Eslea

Head of Learning and Visitor Experience, Turner Contemporary

Biography

Karen Eslea joined Turner Contemporary in 2001 and became Head of Learning and Visitor Experience in 2014. She worked with the Director to develop the organisation and new gallery building, which opened in Margate in 2011. She established Turner Contemporary’s Learning Programme, pioneering the use of Hands On Philosophy. Karen leads ground breaking projects such as ‘Art Inspiring Change’, with 80 primary school children leading the cultural regeneration of their own town.

Karen gives talks throughout the UK, and in countries including Norway, China and Japan.
Karen is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, a member of the All Party Parliamentary Group for Art, Design and Craft Education and was awarded a Marsh Award for Excellence in Gallery Education in 2011.
