Joined Royal Bank in Glasgow straight from School in 1977.
Worked in a number of Branches there for about 10 years – Cashier, Personal Lending, Foreign Exchange and Investments. During that time studied for Qualifications through the Chartered Institute of Bankers – mix of Day Release, Night School and Block Release. Then 5 Years in a Lending Department, approving loans to Small Firms, Partnerships and Limited Companies, followed by 2 years in Large Advances, presenting to Credit Committees on large debt transactions. Then moved in to Relationship Banking, firstly supporting a Senior Manager who had responsibility for a portfolio of Large Public Companies, then as a Relationship Director for a portfolio of Mid Sized companies and more recently as a Senior Director with responsibility for a range of Financial Institutions. I am married to a school teacher and have 3 children. I spend my free time being a taxi driver for my youngest child, sometimes play golf (badly) and coach rugby.
