Award-Winning Group Managing Director, Watkin Jones Group
Educated in Ysgol Friars, Bangor and having graduated from Portsmouth Polytechnic in 1990 Mark joined the Watkin Jones Group (established in 1791) and in 2001 became the 9th generation of the family to lead the business.
Today the Watkin Jones Group operates nationally and is seen as one of the leading Privately Owned Construction and Development Businesses in the UK.
Mark is a natural leader (which has been recognised by many prestigious national awards) and operates a no nonsense, hands on, flat management approach. He demands transparency, accuracy and excellent presentation from his workforce and has built an exceptionally loyal workforce amongst his 320 employees.
Passionate about training and giving opportunities to those that want them; and empowering employees to make decisions, Mark saw the Watkin Jones Group achieve record Sales of £186M in 2011 with equally impressive profits of £11M in a time where the Construction industry is facing its biggest reduction in workload in decades.
Equally impressive is the way in which Mark has managed the business during the credit crisis, having managed a reduction in debt within the Group from £150M in 2008 to a modest £25M today (2012) making the Group more secure than ever with a strong order book for the future.
Mark has also recognised the impact Construction work has on the Environment and has established several initiatives to minimise these effects.
Over recent years Mark has also encouraged the business to engage with the Community and the Watkin Jones Group now operate a Community Fund giving financial and other assistance to not for profit organisations in the Community.
Mark has the clear vision, courage, drive and leadership skills to implement his goals and continue to drive his Welsh Company forward.
