Biography

Michael Russell is the Cabinet Secretary for Education and Lifelong Learning.

He was SNP Chief Executive from 1994 to 1999 and has held a variety of offices within the party which he joined in 1974 aged 20.

Educated at the Mar College, Troon and Edinburgh University he has lived and worked in the Western Isles, Lanarkshire and the Highlands.

An author, commentator and broadcaster he is married with one son.
