Professor Kimberley Scharf

Professor of Economics and Public Policy, University of Nottingham

I am Head of Department and Professor of Economics at the University of Birmingham as well as Research Director of the National Audit Office-University of Birmingham Tax Centre. My research interests span several subfields of economics, including political economy, public finance, international trade and finance, industrial organisation and most recently, the economics of charity and philanthropy. My research also reaches out to other disciplines – e.g., marketing and decision sciences and has been published in leading peer-reviewed journals and has been funded by the ESRC, the Social Sciences and Research Council of Canada, the British Academy, the European Research Council, HM Treasury and HM Revenue and Customs.

I am currently Editor-in-Chief of International Tax and Public Finance, Elected Member of the Board of Management of the International Institute for Public Finance; Research Fellow at CEPR, CESifo, the Norwegian Centre for Taxation and VATT in Finland. I have also served as Chair of the Danish Research Council’s Economics and Business International Peer Review Panel, Elected member of Council of the Royal Economic Society, the RES Women’s Committee, Research Associate at the IFS, Associate Editor of the Journal of Public Economics, and Fiscal Studies.
