Sandeep Dwesar

Former Joint Interim Managing Director, Barbican Centre

Sandeep is Chief Operating and Finance Officer of the Barbican Centre and the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.
After qualification as a Chartered Accountant, Sandeep moved from professional practice into industry working for British and American multi national companies, in the UK and in Europe. Following this, he worked as a consultant within local government, working on a variety of different projects – including management training, business process engineering and privatisation initiatives.
He moved to the Barbican Centre in 1999, and in 2008 the Barbican began working closely with the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. In 2010 Sandeep then assumed the role of Chief Operating and Financial Officer of the two organisations, with oversight of strategic planning and operational leadership. In this role he represents all non-artistic activity of the combined arts centre, re-vitalising the Barbicanā€™s income streams and commercial activity.

Sandeep has held a variety of non-executive roles for many years and is involved in a number of charitable organisations, including a trusteeship of ā€œFriends of Baale Maneā€, a homeless shelter for young girls in Bangalore, he is a trustee of the Design Council, and is also a trustee of Punchdrunk, a theatre company which is a pioneer of a form of “immersive” presentation in which the audience is free to choose what to watch and where to go.
