Top global law firm hosts S4SNextGen work experience students

6 November 2017

From the 31st floor of a central London high-rise, the view of The City glistening in the sun is spectacular. For five lucky teenagers on the S4SNextGen placement programme, this was their office for a week while they got a taste of working for top-flight global law firm, Reed Smith in London.

Mohammed was one of five teenage students chosen for the Reed Smith placement from over 50 applicants. Beforehand, he was more interested in accountancy than law but this week has changed that. He says he’s been inspired by the placement to pursue a branch of law which will allow him to use his numerical skills.

“[The work placement] has changed what I want to do in the future” said Mohammed. “This week has given me a better insight into what career possibilities I could explore.”

Fellow placement student Iulia was equally positive about the experience. She was able to visit the Supreme Court during the week and was trusted to research anti-abortion laws for her supervisor.

“This week has definitely consolidated my desire to become a lawyer and my desire to work for a big law firm like Reed Smith”, she said. “I think that working with her [the supervisor] has definitely ignited my passion for law and working in the profession, and confirmed the fact that I want to become a lawyer.”

The Reed Smith managers reflected the compliments of the students with many saying that they were surprised by their capabilities. They found the experience of hosting students to be rewarding and are keen to do more in the future.

“They embraced the experience with total commitment and dedication from the beginning and could easily have been mistaken for a Reed Smith employee given how well they worked within their teams,” said Carole, Reed Smith host.
