Summer term is already in full swing!

28 April 2016

Our Spring term saw hundreds of talks take place across the entire length and breadth of the UK, including our first talk in Northern Ireland! Now that the Summer term is here, we’re still busy with talks, with nearly a quarter of local authorities in the UK having a talk in just the last three weeks, as our speakers travelled to schools to speak to students about their lives and answer questions from the audience.

Here are a few highlights from the around the country already in the Summer term:

Joy Tacon, Twickenham Academy, Twickenham

joytacon.jpg Tennis champion turned investment director Joy Tacon spoke in Twickenham Academy in London to over 300 students. She inspired the students to pursue what they believe in and to persevere through setbacks and losses. The talk even happened in the middle of the school’s Ofsted visit! Twickenham Academy decided that this would be a great way to show Ofsted inspectors what they’re doing with their students.

You can read an article from the school about Joy’s visit here.

Rick Haythornthwaite, Fulham College Boys’ School, Fulham

Fulham College Boys’ School had an incredibly open discussion with Rick Haythornthwaite about the key decisions he has made in his life. The Q&A was particularly diverse and illuminating as the 13-14 year olds asked questions to the Chairman of both MasterCard and Centrica. According to the head, the students were talking about this unique experience for the rest of the day!

Sir Harpal Kumar, Bentley Wood High School, Harrow

Harpal S Kumar MA, MEng, MBA, DSC who is the CEO of Cancer Research UK.

This was what one of the students said after Sir Harpal Kumar, CEO of Cancer Research UK, spoke to their class at Bentley Wood High School. He spoke and then took questions on the history of cancer research and his own career path.
