Speakers for Schools unveils ‘S4SNextGen’ and calls on its employer network for work experience
27 February 2017
A new online portal launching to help connect our employer network with state schools & colleges students for work experience — more below!
Today Speakers for Schools announces the charity’s new work experience platform, S4SNextGen, calling on further UK leading employers to provide opportunities that match the ambitions of young people. It launches today for employer registration as a part of the ‘Bridging the Gap’ talk series, rolling out over 2017 and next academic year with limited placements available initially.
S4SNextGen.org will be the charity’s free online advertising portal and programme that will help leading firms and organisations open up their work experience placements more directly to state schools and colleges. The platform will specifically aim to help schools and employers target their young people without personal networks or access to work experience through teacher-nominated student applications, as well as help employers open up access to improve the diversity of their respective sectors and social mobility for young people from state schools.
Work experience is regularly cited as key to broadening work prospects and promoting greater social mobility. While 74% of employers think work experience is ‘essential’ when hiring at entry level only 38% in England offer such opportunities. The charity will endeavour to grow this programme to match the success of its speaker programme, nationwide across the UK.
Which employers can take part in S4SNextGen?
- Firms new to working with teenagers or offering work experience
- Employers looking to improve their current engagement
- Corporates with existing programmes to support and provide best practice for new schemes, ensuring existing programmes reach our diverse network of state schools and help reach students who need these opportunities the most.
