Top PR & Communications Companies Host S4SNextGen Work Experience

14 November 2017

Top PR and communications companies have been opening their doors to state school students through the S4SNextGen work experience programme.

Portland, Tulchan Communications and Finsbury all hosted students this Summer and Autumn. They reported how impressive the young people were, while the students said the placements have made a significant impact on the way they feel about their working future.

Mosam, who joined Portland for a week, was particularly interested to learn about the array of departments that contribute to a leading PR firm.  Through the placement she learned more about the different roles in the workplace and feels that she has more career options for the future now. Portland said she applied herself well during the week and worked to a high standard.

“She has good research skills and was able to assist both account teams and colleagues working on pulling together research for new business pitches,” said her host.

City and Islington College student Grace shadowed the Financial PR team at Tulchan Communications. By the end of the week she had a new-found interest in the industry and in the future said she now wants to help businesses build their strategies.

“It’s been a great way for me to try new things and an experience out of my comfort zone, this will help me with my confidence for the future,” said Grace.

Tulchan host Joanna, said it was rewarding to work alongside the placement students. The organisation ’s involvement was partly motivated by a desire to help students without networks better access their industry by giving them an experience to get started, she said.

17 year old Daisy spent her week at Finsbury Global Communications near the Strand in Central London, where she was given responsibility to do research for various client projects.
