Chief Executive, the Brightside Trust
Anand Shukla is the Chief Executive of the Brightside Trust (www.thebrightsidetrust.org), which mentors the young people who need it most, giving them the confidence, knowledge and connections to support them into further education and work. Brightside works with 15,000 young people every year.
Anand joined Brightside in February 2015, after five years as Chief Executive of Family and Childcare Trust (and its predecessor organisation Daycare Trust). He has advised governments in Westminster, Edinburgh and Cardiff on family and childcare policy, and has regularly appeared in the media as an expert on childcare policy. In particular, he led a successful campaign to extend free childcare provision in Scotland and also secured more funding for childcare for disabled children in England.
He has led on mergers with the National Association of Family Information Services in 2011, and with Family and Parenting Institute in 2013.
His inspiring leadership style was recognised when he became a Clore Social Leadership Fellow in 2012. Anand is also a non-executive director of the Social Investment Business, and is an advisor to Independence ZA – a South African charity that provides financial support to disadvantaged young people so that they can enter higher education.
He grew up in Walsall in the West Midlands and studied French and History at Keble College, Oxford. Before working at Family and Childcare Trust, he worked in private sector publishing for Reed Elsevier, Butterworths and Lexis-Nexis. He has also worked for the children’s charity Barnardo’s.
