Brendan has worked in the emerging Internet, Communications and Technologies industries for 24 years. After doing a Math’s degree at King’s College London he found his way into the mobile industry in the development of customer care & billing systems. Travelling was an ambition so he quickly engineered an opportunity to move to the US working with Bell South International in South American properties.
Brendan then worked across Asia, Europe and India with highlights setting up Retevision, the second national telecommunications operator in Spain and setting up PwC’s systems integration and process engineering consultancy in the Telecoms sector in Japan.
Brendan joined BT as CIO of BT Openworld, launching broadband internet services and looking after all the BT Retail Internet networks and IT and leading on the initial development of BT Vision. After leaving BT he worked for a number of small and start up businesses the most interesting were as COO of FREEDOM4, a WiMAX startup, and Product and Technology Director of MiniWeb an interactive TV platform provider.
Brendan joined Telefónica in 2009 as Head of IT for Online, Integration and Product Design with the highlights being the launch of Priority Moments and completely transforming O2’s Self-Service and eCommerce customer experiences. From then, Brendan was appointed CIO of Telefonica Digital, a global business division of Telefónica, its mission is to seize the opportunities within the digital world and deliver new growth for Telefónica.
Currently, Brendan is Chief Information Officer of Telefonica O2 UK, a £5.4bn business delivering digital communications products and services across all sectors. Brendan is responsible for all aspects of technology from product development to IT operations and has a team of approximately 400 people. As part of the Global CIO team, Brendan is also responsible for implementation of Global IT strategy and accountable for key business KPIs around efficiency and simplification.
