Dame Kate Barker

Business Economist

Biography

Kate Barker is a business economist. Her particular interests are monetary policy and housing. She was a member of the Bank of England’s Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) from 2001 until May 2010. During this period, she also led two major policy reviews for Government, on housing supply and on land use planning. Before joining the MPC she was Chief Economic Adviser at the CBI.

Kate is presently an NED at Taylor Wimpey plc and Man Group plc. She is also chairman of trustees for the British Coal Staff Superannuation Scheme and a member of the National Infrastructure Commission. Her other interests include working with the ONS on consumer prices policy and the Council of Oxford University.

She was made a Dame in 2014 for services to economics.
