Sir David Verey

Former Chairman, The Art Fund & Former Director, Pearson


David Verey is a Senior Adviser at Lazard & Co., Limited, Lead Non-Executive Director Department of Culture, Media and Sport, a Director of Daily Mail and General Trust plc; a Director of Sofina SA, a Director of Bank Gutmann in Vienna and a Director of LMS Capital plc.

Since 2004 he has been Chairman of The Trustees of The Art Fund. He is a Trustee of The Teaching Awards Trust, a Trustee of the Pilgrim Trust and a Fellow of Eton College. He is also a member of the Trinity, Cambridge Finance Committee and the Cambridge University Library Visiting Committee.

He joined Lazard Brothers in 1972, became a Director 1983, Deputy Chief Executive in 1985, Chief Executive in 1990 and was Chairman from 1990 until 2001.

From 1996 – 2000 he was Director of Pearson plc. In 2004 until 2008 he was Chairman of Blackstone UK. From 1992–2004 he was a Trustee of Tate Gallery (and Chairman of the Board of Trustees, 1998–2004).

He took an MA in English at Trinity College, Cambridge. He is an honorary fellow of St. Hugh’s Oxford. In 2004 he was made a CBE for services to art.
