Biography

Bill is a Laser jockey, he obtained a B.Sc in Applied Physics from the University of Essex in 1985 and an M.Sc in Laser Physics in 1986, and a PhD in laser matter interactions from the Royal School of Mines, Imperial College in 1990. Bill has spent 20 years understanding the affects that high power laser beams have on materials. He runs a world leading research group at Cambridge University, that seeks to apply laser science to industrial applications. His wide range of experience, excellent lecturing style, and enthusiasm generally leaves his audience amazed by the wonderful world of laser science. He is the Director of the Centre for Industrial Photonics, at Cambridge University, and has delivered many keynote lectures to a wide range of audiences all over the world. He continues to research and develop the next generation photonics based manufacturing solutions.
