Writer, Literary Critic, Academic
I am a writer, literary critic, and academic. I spent several years working as a bicycle courier in London, and now I teach English Literature at King’s College, London. ‘Cyclogeography’, a philosophical memoir about my time as a London bicycle courier, was published in 2015.
I also work as a literary critic and essayist. I write about books, art, politics and strange hobbies. My essays and reviews have appeared in the London Review of Books, the Times Literary Supplement, n+1, and the Guardian, and I am a regular fiction critic for the Financial Times. I was a judge for the 2016 Man Booker Prize. I’d be happy to speak about how to be a critic, writing, working in academia, or being judge of literary prizes.
