Ellis is a chartered engineer and has worked in the international oil and gas industry for over 30 years. He joined bp after completing his BSc and PhD in Civil Engineering from Imperial College and spent his early years working offshore on drilling rigs and production platforms in the North Sea. After a spell in the corporate head office in London, Ellis moved to Anchorage Alaska to manage an oilfield on the north slope. He then did a business degree at Stanford in California before moving to Caracas as president of bp Venezuela. His final assignment in the region was based in Buenos Aires, where he was responsible for all of bps operations in the Caribbean and Latin America. After a period in London as Chief Technolgy Officer, Ellis spent his final five years with bp as CFO for Exploration and Production, based in Houston, Texas. Ellis is now a Non executive director of Lloyd’s Register Group and Lamprell. His main interests at work are building organisational capability, leading teams to deliver high performance, and maintaining a heathy work life balance. Outide of work Ellis is interested in sport and photography. Ellis was born and brought up in the English Lake District and still enjoys visiting.
