CEO and President, Vitol
Ian Roper Taylor is the Chief Executive Officer and President of the Vitol Group of companies. Vitol is one of the world’s largest traders of energy and Mr Taylor has been an integral part of the company’s expansion since he first joined from Shell in 1985.
Graduating from Oxford in 1978 with an M.A. in Politics, Philosophy and Economics, Mr Taylor has spent the vast majority of his career within the oil industry. He joined Shell very soon after his graduation and worked in a number of the company’s various operations, including shipping, trading and operations.
After seven years with Shell, he moved to Vitol and became heavily involved in the formation of many international operations for the company, especially within the energy market. Mr Taylor was also the man behind the creation of the Vitol global crude oil trading team.
In 1992, Ian Taylor was appointed to the post of Managing Director of Vitol Asia, a position he held until 1994. The following year, he returned to Europe as the Chief Executive Officer of Vitol, a post he still holds today. Mr Taylor’s tenure as CEO has seen Vitol expand in many areas. This expansion has included the addition of upstream and downstream petroleum assets to the Vitol portfolio.
In addition to his work with Vitol, Ian Taylor is a Non-Executive Director at Fortune Oil PLC, a position he has held since 1996. He served as Executive Director of the same company from 1993 to 1996.
