Biography

Jason Knauf has been Communications Secretary to The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry since February 2015. He was previously Director of Corporate Affairs at the Royal Bank of Scotland with responsibility for the bank’s strategy across media relations, public affairs, sustainability, and digital communications. He joined RBS as Head of Group Media Relations in 2010. Prior to joining the bank Jason served as financial services spokesman at HM Treasury and was Press Secretary to the Financial Services Secretary, Lord Myners. At the Treasury he was responsible for the communications surrounding the Government’s financial sector interventions, including the relationship with RBS.

He began his career in New Zealand, where he spent four years as a Press Secretary, Speechwriter, and Communications Advisor to government ministers, including then Prime Minister Helen Clark. During his four years working in New Zealand, he was the Government’s media advisor and political press spokesman on a wide range of topics, including public health, the economy, and reconciliation with Maori communities.

Originally from Virginia, Jason is a graduate of Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand. He obtained his Masters in Politics and Communication from the London School of Economics, where his dissertation focused on the intersection of political and financial journalism during the 2008 financial crisis.
