Biography

Jerry Wright was appointed to the post of Director, Wates Family Charities in June 2016, responsible for the overall management of the grant-making programmes, finance and administration of the Wates Foundation and the Wates Family Enterprise Trust’s ‘Wates Giving’ programme. The Charities have a combined spend of c. £2m and are focused on sustaining the philanthropic ethos throughout the Wates Family and the Wates Group of companies and its people. Grants are awarded to some longer-term, multi-year programmes as well as to a large number of local, community-based charities. Supporting the growth and development of the social enterprise sector has been a particular focus in recent years. He is also Vice-Chairman of the St. Bride Foundation, the Fleet St-based charity that offers a range of community services to those who work and live in the area as well as looking after of its world-renowned Print and Printing Library.

Jerry enjoyed a 25-year marketing and general management career with Unilever in Asia, Europe and the UK, finishing up as Marketing and Innovation Director for Birds Eye. Between 2008 and 2015, he was Chief Executive of ABC UK, the not-for-profit industry standards and auditing body for the print and digital media sector and was elected global President of the 38-country International Federation of ABCs for 2010-2014. He is a Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Marketors.
