CEO, Drax Retail Group
As CEO of Drax Retail, Jonathan Kini (JK) oversees business operations and champions the retail strategy across Haven Power and Opus Energy. He is responsible for pursuing increased business growth in the small-to-medium enterprise (SME) sector, and for sustaining and growing the industrial and commercial (I&C) customer base.
The strategic focus of Drax Retail is to have a more customer-centric approach to energy sustainability and to inspire change in energy use. Under JK’s leadership, both Haven Power and Opus Energy will offer reliable, renewable electricity generated using biomass technology. The long-term ambition is that 100% of Drax’s retail customers are on 100% renewable energy.
JK joined the energy sector in January 2016 when taking the role of CEO at Haven Power. Before this, he spent almost 10 years in one of the world’s most customer-centric organisations: Virgin.
While JK was the commercial lead at challenger brand Virgin Mobile, it grew to become the world’s largest mobile provider running on another organisation’s network, with over 4m customers at its peak. JK also ran customer contact centres at Virgin Media, where he helped to inspire thousands of people to work hard in resolving customer issues.
From Virgin JK moved to Vodafone, which saw him transform the company from being only a mobile B2B player to also offering fixed and converged communications. This led to him heading up Vodafone’s SME division and his later progression to Drax.
