BBC trainee – worked first in Northen Ireland and then as a reporter on Today Programme. Later foreign affairs correspondent working in Gulf War, Bosnian civil war, South Africa, India. Covered the collapse of the Soviet Union. Europe Correspondent based in Brussels 1997 – 2002. Chief North America correspondent 2002 – 09. Interviewed Obama and Bush. Now presenter of the Today Programme on Radio Four. Interviewed Cameron. Wrote two books on America – one an attack on anti-Americanism and the other an examination of the relationship between the US and the UK. Educated at the LSE: studied Economics though don’t remember much.
