Lindsey Hilsum is International Editor for Channel 4 News, and has reported extensively from the Middle East, Asia, Africa, Europe and the Americas. In 2011, she covered the Arab Spring in Egypt, Libya and Bahrain. From 2006 – 8 She was C4N Beijing Correspondent. She reported the 2003 war in Iraq from Baghdad, and the 1999 war in Kosovo from Belgrade. She was the only English-speaking journalist in Rwanda when the genocide started in 1994.
She has won awards from the Royal Television Society, Amnesty and the One World Broadcasting Trust, as well as the James Cameron Award and the Charles Wheeler Award.
Before becoming a journalist, she was an aid worker with OXFAM and UNICEF in Latin America and Africa, and she is now trustee and patron of several charities. Her book Sandstorm; Libya in the Time of Revolution was published in 2012.
