Professor Kamila Hawthorne

Biography

Professor Kamila Hawthorne is Vice Chair of Professional Development and took up the post in November 2015.

She has a long history with the College. She has represented South East Wales Faculty on Council since 2007, and previously chaired the Assessment and Curriculum Development Committee, as well as being a current MRCGP examiner.

A practising GP in Cardiff, she held a senior teaching position at the University of Cardiff from 2002 until 2015, when she moved to the University of Surrey, where she is now Associate Dean for Medicine/ Director of Medical Education in the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences. Her role includes preparing a bid for a new community -facing Medical School.

She is passionate about GP education and training, and lifelong learning, and her priorities as Vice Chair include producing an RCGP Quality Position Statement, improving the CPD offer to members from the RCGP, accreditation for GPs with Extended Roles, strengthening the GP workforce, and promoting the role of general practice as a fulfilling and important career.
Kamila has recently been awarded an MBE in the 2017 New Year’s Honours list in recognition of her work.
