Member of Parliament (High Peak, Labour, 1997-2010) When an MP: aide to Hilary Benn as International Development Secretary, member of DWP, Standards and Privileges select committees. (Left the Labour Party 2018 over Brexit and Corbyn).
Former secondary school teacher (secondary, biology/science).
Since 2010 – writer and consultant (as Sector 4 Focus) on responsible and sustainable business, clients have included major corporates, SMEs, social enterprises, charities. Author of ‘The Company Citizen’, co-founder of the anti-poverty social enterprise Fair for You.
‘Responsible business’ includes inclusive economy, climate change, modern slavery, etc.
Author of two plays: ‘Making Allowances’ (on MPs’ expenses, 2010) and PowerPlay (post-Brexit comedy, 2018).
Next book: ‘The Courage to Meddle: the Belief of Frances Perkins’ (US economic policy/history, due 2020).
