I have always worked in the service sector, which means selling ‘people’ skills, not things or products. The service sector is a very large part of the UK economy, and therefore matter to our economy.
In order to help my company be successful, I have to sell skills and services of my colleagues to other businesses for their advantage. The term ‘sales’ in the UK has historically had negative connotations, but this skill is absolutely vital for each professional in today’s B2B world, whether a sales person or not.
The manner of how customers engage has also moved on – with social media now being important. How do you know which channel to use to persuade people? Which people to persuade? What makes you different than others who offer similar things? There are many challenges, for sure.
For each student, they will have to build these skills as upon leaving school and pursuing careers – they will first and foremost have to sell themselves. My desire is to help each student think about the topic, and consider how to improve their own skills in due course – for their own benefit.
I am originally from New York, and have been living and working in the UK for 25 years. I’d be delighted to help.

I have over 19 years of corporate real estate experience in advising and managing teams for global / national corporate occupier clients in more than 28 countries in a wide range of sectors and managing service delivery including but not limited to: consulting/strategic advice including location advisory, acquisitions and disposals, property management and project management/design and construction advice.
In addition, as leader of JLL’s National Occupier focus, my role is to support to our UK offices in the pursuit and execution of their real estate needs providing our 3,000 plus UK colleagues with a pivotal focus on all relevant tenant activity and needs.
As the Client Relationship Manager for corporate clients including eBay, Sony, Experian, Wipro, I keep a pulse on continually changing corporate occupiers’ needs as to continually refine our service offering. In addition, I am very closed connected to the CBI (Confederate of British Industry) having been selected to their pilot leadership programme.
